Electronic Device Policy

Possession of a cellular phone is not a violation of the Code of Student Conduct. However, use of any electronic device that disrupts the educational environment or violates school rules is prohibited.

State Requirements (Florida Statutes)

In accordance with Florida law (CS/HB 379; Section 1006.07(2)(f), F.S.):

  • Students may not use wireless communication devices during instructional time unless expressly directed by a teacher for educational purposes.
  • Teachers will designate appropriate storage areas for devices during instruction.
  • Devices must remain silenced and stored during the school day, including lunch and transitions.

Wireless communication devices include, but are not limited to:

  • Cell phones
  • Smart watches
  • Earbuds/AirPods
  • Smart glasses
  • Handheld gaming devices

Students must place devices in backpacks and keep them powered off or silenced while on campus unless permitted by staff.

Middle School (Grades 6–8)

Students may possess devices but may only use them before or after the instructional day. Devices must remain turned off or silenced during school hours.

High School (Grades 9–12)

Students may use devices during class only when directed by a teacher strictly for instructional purposes, in accordance with CS/HB 1105.

General Expectations

Students must not display, use, or activate electronic devices during instructional time, lunch, class changes, or school activities unless authorized by staff for educational use.

The school is not responsible for lost or stolen devices.

Electronic Device Confiscation Policy

First Offense

  • Device is confiscated by the teacher and sent to the administrative office.
  • Returned to the student at the end of the school day.

Second Offense

  • Parent/guardian must retrieve the device from the administrative office within the next business day between 9:00 AM and 10:00 AM.
  • Devices will not be released during dismissal times.
  • A lunch detention will be assigned.

Third Offense

  • Parent conference with administration or dean is required.
  • Device will be held for 24 hours and may only be released to a parent/guardian between 9:00 AM and 10:00 AM.
  • Additional disciplinary consequences such as lunch and/or after-school detention may be assigned.
