School Safety and Security

Mater Virtual Academy at Narcoossee maintains plans and procedures to protect students and communicate with families during emergencies. Administration collaborates with staff, local law enforcement, and public health and safety agencies to maintain a safe learning environment.

To protect students and staff, the school utilizes electronic security measures such as burglar alarms, digital video surveillance systems, and controlled access systems.

Accidents and Illness

  • Parents/guardians will be notified immediately in the event of serious illness or injury.
  • If a parent/guardian cannot be reached, individuals listed on the Emergency Contact Card will be contacted.
  • Families are responsible for keeping emergency contact information current and accurate.
  • Any accident or injury occurring during arrival or dismissal should be reported to the front office immediately.
  • Students who are ill should remain at home to prevent the spread of illness.
  • Parents should inform the school of any chronic medical conditions affecting their child.

Florida KidCare Health Insurance

Florida KidCare provides comprehensive health insurance for uninsured children from birth through age 18.

  • Eligibility is based on family income and household size.
  • Many non-citizen children may qualify.
  • Covered services include doctor visits, immunizations, hospital care, vision, hearing, mental health services, prescriptions, emergency care, and dental services.
  • Applications are accepted year-round, and no interview is required.

Visitors

For student safety:

  • All visitors must report to the main office to obtain a visitor’s pass.
  • Individuals not currently enrolled as students at Mater Virtual Academy at Narcoossee will not be permitted on campus during school hours without prior authorization.
  • Instructional time must not be interrupted by unscheduled visits. Parents should arrange appointments with teachers in advance.

Incidents On or Near Campus

Mater Virtual Academy at Narcoossee maintains emergency procedures and a Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) focused on prevention, response, and recovery.

  • A Crisis Intervention Team is available to support students and staff following significant incidents.
  • In the event of a potential threat, the school may initiate safety protocols such as lockdown procedures to protect all individuals on campus.

School Closures and Delays

Severe weather or community emergencies may require delayed opening, early dismissal, or closure.

In such cases:

  • The Critical Incident Response Team will monitor and manage the situation.
  • Announcements will be posted on the school website.
  • Local media outlets will be notified.
  • All athletic events, extracurricular activities, and before/after-school programs will be canceled if school is closed or dismissed early.

Student Data/Emergency Contact Cards are distributed at the beginning of the school year.

  • Parents/guardians must carefully complete and return the forms promptly.
  • This information allows school personnel to contact families quickly during emergencies.
  • Students will only be released to individuals listed on the Emergency Contact Card who present valid photo identification.
  • Information provided is confidential and used solely for school purposes.
  • Documentation updates must be submitted in person.
